Grading Policy

P.S. 140 • Grading Policy 2025-2026

Our goal is to be flexible and responsive to the needs of our students while holding them to rigorous standards.

Our Goal

  • Students’ social-emotional wellness and academic achievement are our #1 priority.
  • Advance “equity” now and every day.
  • Know students and families well.
  • Increase student achievement, attendance, and engagement.
  • Communication with parents/guardians happens prior to students receiving report cards during parent engagement time. Parents shouldn’t learn about their child’s academic status for the first time during PTC.

Teacher Expectations

  • Know the students and families well.
  • Celebrate student success.
  • Assess student work.
  • Provide meaningful feedback (5 pieces of written feedback per student / per subject—reading, writing, math notebook—September–December).
  • Review student work holistically to inform student grades.
  • Support students in catching up on their learning.
  • Students will be given one opportunity to review and re-test any learning target.
  • Give clearly defined due dates and expectations for submission of assignments and adjust when necessary.
  • Communicate with parents; keep a log of parent communication.
  • Grades and assignments aligned with grade team.
  • Consistency on mandated assignments across grades.
